What Coaching Is Not ..
Coaching is not done "to you". It is not a cure-all and you will achieve nothing unless you are prepared to play your part! A coach will help you to help yourself, not to simply to be given check lists or cures or answers.
Coaching is not an easy ride. It is about addressing specific agendas within a measured timeframe, and as such is a process that requires commitment, time and determination.
Coaching is not therapy. Although it uses many similar theories and disciplines as therapy, coaching seeks to create opportunities rather than pin point weaknesses. (A good coach will let you know if there are any areas that they feel would be more appropriate to work on with a therapist and will often help you find the resource you need.)
Coaching is not for "losers". Most people who hire coaches are already very successful high-achievers, who realise that they can be even more successful with the right motivation, guidance and input.
Coaching is not just "conversation". Most coaches are highly-trained and dedicated, and employ cutting edge techniques to encourage you to achieve.
Coaching is not about giving you easy answers - but done well it helps you to work out your own answers.
Coaching is not always right for you. If you are not prepared to commit your time and effort, you will not succeed.
Coaching is not always above-board. There are untrained, inexperienced coaches out there, so you must look for credentials, experience and recommendations when finding the right coach for you.
