Our Emotional Baggage

By Atul Bahl

Life, as we all know it, takes each and everyone of us through it – we all have different phases in our life – some happy or even very happy and some sad phases as well. The best part is that nothing is constant in life…everything changes. So every phase draws to an end to pave way for the beginning of a new phase.

The most important thing is how to embrace this new phase, especially at the end of a sad phase, like how do we perceive life after a bitter relationship, a divorce, death of a beloved or a job loss?

Do we turn bitter? Or we are open to the possibility of happiness re-entering our lives?

The problem is that we are so busy carrying our emotional baggage that we fail to realize that how much is this emotional baggage actually weighing on us – we carry forward our previous bitter experiences to our present and this affects our present as well as future happiness.

Let me put it forward by asking :

  • When painful experiences come your way do you wonder why you may have created such an experience; even more worried about why and how you created this?
  • Does the thought that you create your entire reality weigh heavily on you?
  • Does the thought that you are powerless to make changes you hope for bring pain?

But just being critical on your own self does not solve anything – a basic for all human beings is to have endless unconditional love for one’s own self … yes, I mean to say that we all must love ourselves unconditionally !! being human one does commit errors but that does not mean that we are not good – we all need to have utmost faith in our own for that is what will pull you through everything.

But it is easier said than done when your whole world is crumbling in front of you and you feel yourself to be responsible for your situation.

I believe that changing your outlook can help …

  • Have Faith – Commit, and the Universe commits with you.
  • Focus - Clarify your Intention. Focus on what you want, not on what you don't want.
  • Clean out your garbage (emotional baggage). Release any negativity that does not support your happiness.
  • Feel the fear and do it anyway. Take a risk. Do what intimidates you and overpower the fear.
  • Visualize that what you desire already is and make a grab for it … remember life is short and doesn’t always offer second chances.
  • Ask your angels for faith.
  • Be grateful. Say Thank you for the good that is to come.
  • Change your beliefs. Create new results with new beliefs.
  • Keep the dream alive. Tell yourself daily "i am a winner"!
  • When life seems tough on us, there is no need to be harsh on your self … treat your ownself with firm and gentle kindness sprinkled with liberal amount of patience. The faith in one’s own self is what will help us overcome everything!! Always remind yourself that you truly belong and have your own rightful place in this world… and treat yourself as you would want to be treated because only then would others treat you like that.
