How to Look For Signs Of Stress

By A Johnson

Stress can reveal itself in many forms; some you may recognize, and some which are alien to you. How do you look for signs of stress in your every day life? Here are some of the warning signs and symptoms which you may experience.

Anxiety, depression, guilt, tension; mood swings; worry; lack of concentration; anger; fear; exhaustion; lack of self-esteem; withdrawal; thought of suicide; paranoia. Accompanying these signs are the overall symptoms, such as: palpitations; tightness in the chest; inability to breathe properly; back ache; muscle tension; sweating; nausea; indigestion; weight gain or loss; feeling tired most of the time and frequent illness.

If you're feeling depressed, and that feeling doesn't go away anytime soon; or you are anxious and are experiencing anxiety or panic attacks; if you are feeling helpless and hopeless, and thoughts of suicide begin to surface, it is incumbent upon you to seek medical advice immediately.

It may also be apparent that some of the symptoms mentioned could be due to a low immune system, which in turn is causing you stress as a result of other health issues. Again, check with your doctor to determine if the cause is physical or psychological. Similarly, emotional symptoms such as anxiety or depression can mask conditions other than stress. It's important to find out whether or not they are stress-related.

Studies show that long term stress can take its toll on your body and brain. Because stress inhibits the immune system, it makes you more vulnerable to infections, and because stress is so closely related to anxiety; you can experience attacks which can frighten and deter you from carrying on with your daily life.

If stress does become a major factor in your life, it is important to look for signs of stress to determine their cause. Once you know the cause, you can effectively control any situation that brings stress into the forefront.
