Finding The Right Coach
There are 10,000 life coaches currently practicing in the UK and of course many many more thousands in the US and the rest of the world. The choice is complicated further by the fact that every coach uses different methods and approaches to their work! How do you find the right coach for you?
The bottom line is that you should chose a coach that you feel comfortable with, and someone that you feel you can discuss often very personal issues with. The more you know about coaching and the different specialties, the better.
Personal recommendation is a good place to start, but a coach that comes highly recommended by a friend or colleague might not be at all suited to what you are looking for, so be careful.
Whether you prefer to talk to a woman or a man, or in group or individual sessions, always remember that the coach is there for you, and that the coaching is for you.
Coaches are trained to devise a programme and to take you through that programme. However, there are many different methods and approaches, so do your research and look into what is on offer (you can do a lot of your research here at CoachGlobe.com).
Be patient. Coaching is not an instant cure! Although, having made your decision to find a coach, you will be raring to go - you must curb your enthusiasm and make sure you pick the right person!
Make sure you understand what is involved, and what the coach offers. The average number of sessions spent with a coach varies, but often a coach will ask for a minimum commitment of three sessions. How long a session will last will depend on the coach but can be anything from 30 minutes for some life coaching to three hours for an executive coaching session.
You have got to be determined too. The coach is there to help you to change and improve particular aspects of your work or personal life. But they need you to engage in the process in order for it to be a successful partnership.
Most coaches offer a free introductory session which is the best way to find out whether coaching and that coach are for you. It is generally recommended that you have introductory sessions with two or three coaches to experience difference approaches, personalities and styles to decide who and what will work best for you.
More About Finding the Right Coach
Steps To Finding The Perfect Coach Most coaches will offer a complimentary sample session during which both parties can get acquainted and see how they will work together. It is a time for both the coach and the client to test the waters and see if this is a relationship that will be productive and conducive to achieving the goals the client has in mind. It is a time to lay the ground rules and begin to explore some possibilities.
